What's the difference between all these statements and descriptions?

We get it! There's a lot of different text boxes when applying to a call. There are three you are likely to see as you use EntryThingy:

  1. Artist Profile Statement: this is a general statement that relates to you as an artist. What kind of art you make, where you take inspiration from, what kind of mediums you typically use, etc. If a gallery requests it for a call, you will see it populate on the first page when applying to an entry, but it'll be greyed out and you won't be able to edit it. That is because you edit this at the profile level, not per call. Meaning, to change it, you edit your statement on your artist profile!
  2. Description of Entry: this is specific to the call you're applying to. After reading the call instructions, fill in this box with the description of your entry! (Or things the gallery / jury should know about your entry)
  3. Piece Description: you're likely to see this (assuming the gallery enabled Piece Descriptions) when uploading art to a call. This is information about that specific piece only. Tell the jurors exactly what they're looking at here!

Where do I fill these in?

You'll see the first two on Step 1 when you apply to a call. If you have an Artist Profile Statement saved on your Profile, it'll auto populate here.

If you don't see a prompt for Description of Entry when applying to a call - that just means the gallery hasn't requested that you write one.

You'll see the Piece Descriptions later in the process as you upload a piece of work to a call. It will also appear as you upload art to your Artwork Management profile:
